Who We Are
David Herbert - Pastor
It's wonderful to share a bit about my background with you all. I was fortunate to grow up in Loveland, Ohio, where my father, Marty Herbert, served as a minister. Our family established strong connections within that community, and I cherished those early years there until the third grade. In 1986, our family embarked on a new chapter, moving to Chandler, Arizona, where I remained until my high school graduation. Growing up in a preacher's household provided me with a unique perspective on faith and service. I witnessed firsthand my father's dedication to the church, from leading worship services and administering communion to offering heartfelt meditations and even serving as my youth minister, all while fulfilling his role as the primary preacher. This upbringing instilled in me a deep understanding of the church's inner workings from a young age. It allowed me to truly grasp what it meant to be a minister to others, extending beyond simply preaching on Sunday mornings. Following my high school graduation, I pursued higher education at Hope International University in California, initially intending to become a Physical Therapist. However, after realizing that the program and career path did not fully align with my expectations, I made the decision to return to Arizona.
There, I enrolled in a program to become a Massage Therapist, a career I pursued for approximately five to six years.
But as I grew in my life and my faith, and as I watched my dad pour his life and ministry into others, I realized that I wanted more. I was ready to let God use me however He saw fit and I was ready to get out of the way. So, One Sunday night, as my dad talked about going into full-time Ministry, he asked if anyone wanted to make that decision right then, please come forward, and I took that step of faith and let God take me wherever He saw fit. From there I got accepted into Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly Missouri and graduated with a degree in Youth and Family Ministries.
From that point on, God has moved me from Arizona, to Indiana, to Virginia, and back to Arizona… From Ministry after ministry, some good, and some so bad that I had all but given up wanting to work at a church.
In Feb. 2017, I moved back to Loveland Ohio to be a paid intern at Loveland Cristian Church, doing everything from working with youth, kids, college, preaching, teaching men’s Bible studies, leading worship, basically anything I could get my hands on. About 6 to 7 months into my internship there, God had another direction He wanted me to go and I was called back to Arizona on Sept. 11 2017, to be the paid Youth Minister at Centerstage Church.
Every single moment of my life, God has led me where He wants me to go, and made it abundantly clear what His path has been for me, he was just waiting for me to listen…. From Loveland Ohio to Apache Junction Arizona, to Miamitown Ohio and now to Greenfield Church of Christ as their Senior Pastor!
I am so grateful to be here and to partner with the Elders here in leading this church down the path that God has for us and I am looking forward to seeing what He has planned in the future.
